For machining the tooth flanks of a hardened workpiece having pre-formed teeth two cutting blades or plates are secured to a cutting blade or plate holder. The cutting blades or plates are provided with a base member or backing formed of a hard metal and a cover layer sintered thereon which is formed of cubic boron nitride. Each cutting blade forms a cutting surface and a clearance surface. Each individual cutting blade or plate is arranged at the cutting blade or plate holder in relation to the direction of the intended cutting movement such that the surface of the cover layer forms the clearance surface and an end face or surface of the cover layer is located in the cutting surface. Consequently, there is achieved the result that the cutting surface can be reground in the same manner as tools which, for example, are made of hardened steel and which are not provided with a cover layer.

The invention relates to mechanical engineering, in particular, to machining the side surfaces of the teeth of hardened gears with a preliminary roughing of the teeth.
The aim of the invention is to reduce the cost of manufacturing a cutting tool by reducing the consumption of wear-resistant materials and simplifying the sharpening process.
FIG. 1 shows a tool made in the form of a cutting insert holder; in fig. 2 is a diagram of the installation of the holders in the housing in the case of an instrument in the form of a toothed rack consisting of several holders; in fig. 3 is a diagram of the installation of cutting plates on the body of the disk tool with the fastening of the plates with screws.
The tool for machining the side surfaces of the teeth, pre-cut on a hardened wheel, is made in the form of at least one holder -1, on which cutting plates 2 are installed, having a base 3, in particular carbide, with a wear-resistant layer 4 applied to it. The technological tool is made in the form of a holder 1, at one end of which there are sockets 9 for fitting the plates 2, into each of which one plate is soldered. Each of the plates 2 has a base 3 with a thickness of 4-6 mm and a sintered upper layer 7 with a thickness of 0.8-1.0 mm. The base 3 consists of a solid alloy, in particular, based on tungsten carbide.

The surface of the upper layer 7 of each of the cutting plates 2 is flat and forms a back surface 6 adjacent to the main cutting edge 10. One of the lateral sides 11 of the upper layer 7 of any of the plates 2 is an integral part of the front surface 5, mainly formed by the base 3 plates 2. The front surfaces 5 are usually flat or slightly convex and are ground in such a way that a leading angle is formed at the main cutting edges 10.
By connecting several tools made in the form of holders 1, by means of a clamping device, a more complex tool can be obtained, which is a toothed rack. When mounting the holders 1 on a disk carrier, for example, by means of a wedge, you can get a tool made in the form of a disk cutter. -
It is possible to perform on the disk housing 12 which are made integral with the last holders 13 arranged with uniform angular steps, with sockets 14 being made on each of the holders 13, in which one plate 2 is attached. The plate 2 is fixed by means of screws 8, with This screw hole is made from the side of the plate 2 opposite to its front surface 5. The tool in this design is used for fine processing of the side surfaces of gear wheels.
The proposed tool is used in cutting the side surfaces of hardened gear teeth. The inevitable intermittent interaction of the tool and the workpiece increases the danger of chipping the wear-resistant layer on the cutting edges, as a result of which it is necessary to produce a timely regrinding of the tool. The tool is regrinted on the front surface.
